Hi, I’m Ruba, a freelance illustrator based in Sydney, Australia. I sketch and paint urban architecture from around the world. My journey into urban sketching began during my time as an expat in Shanghai, China, where the fusion of traditional and modern architecture captivated me.

I’m drawn to unique, colourful and quirky architecture as well as traditional style high street shops that rekindle nostalgic memories. I also create customised artworks of places that are special to clients, turning their memories into personalised pieces of art.

I sketch the outline with pencil, pen and apply several layers of watercolour paint. I only use the best materials sourced worldwide to produce my artworks. I never compromise on quality when it comes to materials.

My mission is to capture your home or a place that is special to you.  I create stylised versions as a memory of a moment in time.

Inspiration

In Shanghai, every corner tells a story. The city's architectural tapestry is a testament to its rich history and dynamic evolution. As I wandered through alleys, and was met with the fusion of ‘old’ and ‘new’ Shanghai, I was inspired by the energy of the traditional and contemporary.

This led to some of my first sketches and illustrations of urban architecture.
